When I open excel 2004 running 10.4.4, several recent workbooks open simultaneously. It also tries opening some other documents, resulting in a "file format not valid" duh for a word file, and mishmash opening html or pdf. What's it thinking?

Running 10.4.4, I have been unable to install new palm software or New Yorker magazine viewer. In both cases, the installer shows up with a folder icon instead of an installer icon, and double-clicking produces "can't find the application to open this." Any clues? Palm installed fine on an...
