setting the IP manually -- not getting internet

You will need to configure your DNS settings now that you are not having that info fed via DHCP. I would bet that you could view yahoo.com if you entered the IP address of 216.109.112.135 in your browser address field vs. www.yahoo.com I could be wrong but that is what it sounds like. -Dave.

Put on your thinking caps – this is a tough one.

I can only go so long without getting a production machine back on line so I had to do it. I agree with you on the upgrade. Sell that to my cheapo IT director. I will be in your debt.

    simple FTP connection question

I have a ibook G4 with Tiger 10.4.6 running. I went into system prefs and turned on FTP Access so I could connect to the ibook from other machines. When I try to connect I get a screen asking for user name and password but when I enter the account info for the mac it says it cannot log me on...

    The great technical divide

I appreciate your concern but the fact of the matter is most people don’t need to know how IP works. That is why we’re here. :) I think the reference to cars is correct in that it is a tool we expect to work without us knowing the intricacies. If the car is not working properly then we take...

    Remote Application XServe?

I don't claim to have an answer here but I'm trying to better understand what you are after. It sounds to me like you are looking for an application server that works like terminal server in that it creates it's own session for each connected user? If you just wanted each user to have their...

XP Pro Shared Folder and the Jaguar Quest

I support about 40 OSX Mac users on a MS Domain. The Macs are not actually on the domain (except my ibook but that’s just for fun). I also have a P4 running XP pro that is my normal work machine. On this machine I created a share that I store Mac downloads and other graphics software...

    Name resolution without .local?

We used to have that problem a lot which drove me nuts. Safari always placed the stupid www in front of everything. We ended up enterning the IP of the local server then saving the page in the end-user's favorites list and just changing the display name. It's a cheap work around but it got...

Put on your thinking caps – this is a tough one.

Read this closely because it is not an easy one and I’ve done what I think is due diligence in troubleshooting it. I have a user who accesses a shared network folder along with 30 other users with the same read/write permissions. The shared folder lives on the company SAN and the...
