The disk reader is broken not the hard drive. So I have no way of reloading OSX.

Is there any way of doing this. I cannot connect to the internet either as I think the ethernet line in is faulty as well.

I'm having the same problem. At the minute though I cannot connect to the internet at all. Safari and Firefox unexpectidley quit every time and software update will not complete, it stop before I see the upfdate options. Can anyone help?

I have had similar problems and found a cure: "A networking error has occurred: zero byte resource (-1014). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again. I was over helping a friend upgrade his mac, and he got that error. Others have gotten it too, but googling and finding...

Having 5 or six workbooks open at the same time I have noticed that when closing them down (using close button top left) I get "Excel has unexpectedly quit" this isn't any longer unexpected to me as it happens all the time. The problem is getting worse and now worksheets within the workbook...
