    I finally did it!

No, Mac's are not perfect, just d@mn close! We, our company, switched a year ago from windoze, and now have more Mac's than windoze machines. (more than 60, including XServe's). Keep the faith.

    SMB error

Are you entering the SMB information like this? smb://192.168.1.45/shared What kind of windoze box are you trying to connect to? On my network, for example, smb sharing worked well connecting to a windoze 2k server but NOT to a 2003 server. I had to change the security policy on the 2003 box...

Instead of using Word, try NeoOffice. It's free and works great. I switched in the last 6 months with NO looking back.

Entourage Won't Send via POP Mail

Confirm the IP address with your new ISP. SMTP uses port 25 by default. My best guess is that the SMTP address is incorrect. BTW - POP3 to receive (port 110), SMTP to send (port 25).

    Please don't laugh to loudly.

Docq, switching was a smart decision. Just switched recently myself, loving it! This forum is a good place for info, also, remember google is your friend.

Swithing to Mac and OSX - is it worth it for me?

Fryke, You are right about Parallels. I have one network device which can only be administered by a 'doze PC. I installed Parallels and XP. Performance is not bad and works just fine. (iMac 20" 2GB RAM.) No looking back, just keep learning new cool ways to do things with Mac's...

    I feel ripped off...

No matter how many times I re-read my post, I can't seem to find where I mentioned that Apple's hardware is superior. Compact computer devices all share the same problems when it comes to power consumption and heat. This is NOT a superiority flame war similar to the Linux vs Windows crowd.

Swithing to Mac and OSX - is it worth it for me?

You sound like a perfect candidate for switching. I recently switched and it was very painless because of my Linux experience. As pointed out, graphics type work is were Mac's have always excelled in. As you most likely know, Linux is better than 'doze for website work. As far as games go, get a...

    I feel ripped off...

Windows is a resource hog, hence you need more resources! The notebook/laptop video chipsets are designed to work with memory sharing. Heat and excessive power consumption forces the designers to do this. Try and compare the Mac and the Windoze machines side-by-side. You might just be surprised.

Problem using thunderbird to transfer outlook archive to Mail

Hmm, weird that O2M did not work. Maybe an email to the authors will help. I used O2M on 2 different machines, Outlook 2003 and both .PST files were larger than 1GB with many subfolders. Worked like a charm! As a recent convert to Mac this was the most important part, getting our mail...

Saving Excel files on a 2003 Server

I am a recent switcher and managed to convince my company president for us to switch to large scale Mac use in our company, him included. The switch is not only away from windoze, but all M$ software too. Open Office replaced M$ Office. Glad we did this from reading this thread about the hassle...

    Remote Desktop

Dan, thanks for this post. I am a recent Mac convert and your post lead me into a new direction. I was not aware of the extent of the Open Darwin project. Got stuck into it as well. Carl
