OS X will run on a beige G3, just make sure you have at least 512 megs of RAM. It will be terribly slow but I got it working on my old iMac 233 mhz so you shouldnt have any problems. Good luck

The best rule of thumb with RAM is that you can never have too much. Stick in as much as you can afford.

I agree that the fan idea is daft, these temperatures are fine. The first indication you should get with an overheating problem would be crashes and lockups.
