    X11 doesn't open

Thanks. I've started to hone in on the problem a bit. The problem is fixed if I remove the .xinitrc file. I also tried including the .xinitrc file with every line commented out, and the problem returns. Also, the .Xmodmap and .Xresources files do not exist... are they created manually? I...

    X11 doesn't open

Greetings! My X11 doesn't launch. It appears to do so when the icon is clicked, but when the arrow turns into an 'X' before the xterm window is due to appear, the program suddenly quits. It is version 1.0 running on Mac OS 10.3.5. I have tried several reinstalls and reboots to no avail...

    Weird X11 bug?

This is all within X11. I meant the "Applications" option in the X11 menu bar (not the applications directory)... sorry about that. This had worked at one point (opening multiple xterm windows), but it no longer does. If I ssh to a remote server, and type 'xterm' at the command line, another...

    Weird X11 bug?

Greetings... I have configured X11 to launch automatically upon system startup. When it does, an Xterm window appears. However, I cannot open additional windows. When I go Applications>Terminal (or Command-N), the menu bar blinks as if it acknowledged the command, but no new window appears...

    Running unix-based (graphical) software

Thanks again for the replies. I did a reinstall of X11 and it is now working (with -X). The -Y tag is still not recognized, which I'm guessing because I'm running OpenSSH_3.6.1p1. Are there significant advantages to connecting with -Y that would justify an upgrade?

    Running unix-based (graphical) software

Thanks for the reply. I do have X11 running, and have added the following lines to the sshd_config file: sed 's/#X11Forwarding\ no/X11Forwarding\ yes/' /etc/sshd_config > /tmp/sshd_config sudo mv /tmp/sshd_config /etc/. Still no luck... The -Y tag is not recognized, and the -X tag...

    Running unix-based (graphical) software

Greetings... New MAC user here. I was wondering how I can ssh into another server and run unix-based graphical software. I utilized cygwin when I was using a PC recently. Do I need to obtain similar external software to do this, or should I be able to do it directly from a local xterm with...
