I have an iMac with an external CD burner (ME-325X). When burning CDs, the burning process goes normally until just before the writing process is complete. The disc ejects from the CD drive with the message "Burning the disc failed because communications to the disc drive failed. Error code 0x80020022. The last successful burn was 11/26/07. I haven't used the burner since then. The iMac has all software updates applied. I've never updated the driver for the external CD burner.

Specs: iMac, 500 MHz, PowerPC G3, 1 GB SDRAM, Mac OS/X v 10.4.11.

I have had this happen to me a couple of times. The best solution is to clean your hard drive with a special cd or an air blower. Especially if you recently had it in your labtop bag. It seems the new drives are very sensitive to dust.

my last time around it took me two cleanings with the cd, and finally I was able to burn again........

What also worked once was going into international in your system preferences, than to Language. Swap english with any other language, than put english on top again. Go to Word break and put English for United states computer.

Good Luck

I think Pivo means the optical drive. And dust can collect in the strangest places.

Pivo - an iMac is not a laptop.
