10.2 resets iMac display to factory settings

iMac 333/192Mb/OS X 10.2.

I keep setting up my screen, but each time I restart the screen returns to factory settings.

Any ideas ?

Under /Library/Preferences is (I think) com.apple.WindowManager.plist (from the top of my head) which contains the settings for the display. If for some reason or other you don't have the permissions to change this file, that would explain why the settings won't stick.

Check the permissions on the file, and see what it says.
 
I see where you're going here - but that particular file does not exist.

This problem only occurred on 10.2, was OK in 10.1.x.
