10.3.5 Killed my OS X -> XP networking

Greetings!

New site user, though I have been bouncing around a few other Mac sites...

I've done some searching and I can't find the answer (just notes that others are feeling the same pain).

I upgraded to 10.3.5 and now I can no longer see my XP machine or connect to a shared resource on it.

Can someone advise or point me in the correct direction for self help?

I did the full 10.3.5 combined install
Repaired permissions from both in OS X and booted from install disk
Verified the XP machine was still sharing drives

If I browse to Network, then 'Workgroup' I am not seeing any of the other devices on my network (previously I would see the other 4 PC's on the network in the workgroup).

If I try to connect by IP, it times out the connection

If I try by the XP machines name, It doesn't find it.

Let's start from the beginning. Does ping between the two comps work? And how are they connected? Directly or over a hub/switch/router? If it's a router, you should check your settings and log files in the router, if all computers asked for an ip.
I am sure I can help you out. Just give us some more info..
 
I have seen this before with My computer (OSX) and my girlfriends ccomputer (XP). I found that if you right click on the XP share that your sharing and unshare it. And then re-enable sharing it will work. at least it did for me.

Hey guys...

I'm not at the machine right now, to try disabling the sharing and re-enabling, but I can speak to the config.

PB running OSX - Wireless connection to SMC Router
Desktop running XP - Wired connection to Linksys Wet11 wireless bridge.
Linksys wireless connection to SMC router

I can ping the XP machine by IP

I can view the shared folders on the Powerbook from the XP machine... just not the other way.

All machines have IP's, access the internet fine.

It seems that something wacky in OSX (I am *99.5* sure this config was working with 10.3.4) However, because I am not 100% sure that I had this working before, I am not ruling out other componants.

The reason for the doubt is, I've switched between the Wireless bridge and a USB network card on the XP machine. So I *could* have had it working with the USB NIC and not the bridge and the bridge could be the block. (I don't know much about consumer level network bridges... despite being a CCNA :eek: )

Ok so the gremlins were just playing with me. It didn't work one minute, and it works now. So I guess I will see how reliable it is.

hehe, I know this feeling. When things look messed up, heck, then they should be messed up and not repair themselves. ;)
