10.4 Mail App - Importing Problems

Had a question about the Mail application in Tiger. I was running Apple Mail in the previous OS Panther and had about 5 mailboxes in it. I did a class install of Tiger however I have my old users folder from the previous OS on one of my external drives. I have tried using import option in tiger mail and after selecting folders from the old user directory that appear to be intact and have large file sizes, I am told that it is not a recognizeable mail folder. Does anyone have any hints for importing mail. More importantly I need my account settings in the new version of mail since I cannot remember the POP email password to one of my accounts.

When you use the Import feature to grab mail from your old mboxes, use "Other" rather than "Mail for OS X".

As far as the password goes, that was probably stored in your old Keychain and not any of the mail files themselves.
