40GB Firewire Lacie HD

Hi,

I am using a 40GB Hard Drive, it mounts fine when i turn it on and its fine working and appears on the desktop.

The one problem is that it doesn't appear in the open file dialog or save file dialog!
Why not?

Have you initialised the drive in any way, or is it as is from LaCie?
I would try reformatting the drive with MacOS X utilities
