Hey guys I just need to know what's the PC equivelent of my 800 Mhz imac G4 I supose it's at least faster than a pentium 4 1.6 Ghz right

something like that would be equivalent, probably... comparing mhz across systems isnt some sort of magic equation, though...

think about it more in task oriented terms (encoding video, rendering a photoshop filter, outputting a movie from a 3D app, etc.)

That's the computer I'm getting.

I don't know... there really isn't a way to compare the two, the Pentium is based on a CISC processor and the Apple is based on a RISC processor - the apple has Altivec...

And there are many different versions of the "pentium" to compare it to... Pentium II/III vs. 4 vs. Celeron... vs. AMD.

The general rule of thumb when comparing prices is that G4s get a 2x bonus when comparing cross/platform, but even then, I find that a better solution is to compare the "top of the line" of both systems to the computer you're getting...

Let's consider that the top of the line is the 1gHz G4 (Yes, I know it's a dual chip, but) and the 2gHz Pentium - then take the computer systems as a percentage of that. An 800 would be roughly equivelant to a decent mid-range system for a PC - probably a Pentium 4 1.6gHz.

It's tough to compare hardware, which is why when I switched to Mac, I didn't bother with comparing hardware (except to explain to Dad why Macs were "faster" than "Faster" Celerons) The best way to explain it is that the Mac's ease of use & OS features really sold it for me...

Brian.
