A Few Wireless Networking Questions.

I'm going to be getting broadband installed and i am going to share the connection with a wireless router.

I've ordered:
1 X Ebuyer 11mbps 4 Port Wireless (WI-FI) Cable/DSL Broadband Router (802.11b) = £22.99
2X Ebuyer 11Mbps Wireless (WI-FI) USB LAN Adapter (802.11b) =£8.99

On ebuyer they do not state if the USB adapters support OSX. Will there be a possibility that they wont work with OSX or is the hardware standard similar, no matter what brand of USB network adapter you use? (Similar to the bluetooth standard)
There will be 3 computers shared on the network (2X x86 PC's and my iBook)
I've only oredered 2 Lan adapters because i know they are supported in windows. Incase they wont work onthe mac can you recommend me an alternative USB network adapter for my iBook?

Any links or info would be appreciated too.

Thanks for reading! :D

Unfortunately I they will not work with macosx. There is only one known wifi over USB stick that works with macosx 10.3: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46220
Everything else will most likely not work on your mac since there is no standard for such sticks. :(

If you don't want to get an airport card (which iBook do you have?), you can use the usb stick linked above. But an airport card will definitely be the better choice.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Zammy-Sam.

The iBook i have is this one.

I just noticed that it's the same adapter you pointed out to me. It should work!
eBuyer sell a dongle which:

The DWL-122 is Wi-Fi compliant, meaning that it can connect and interoperate with other 802.11b Wi-Fi-compliant wireless routers, access points, and adapters. The DWL-122 connects to any available USB port on a laptop or desktop Windows and Macintosh-based computer and also includes a standard USB extension cable. With its USB extension cable the DWL-122 can be positioned virtually anywhere at a workstation to achieve the best available wireless signal reception - whether that workstation is in your office, on your deck or patio, by the p

The adapter works with Apple Mac OS X (10.2.x) Jaguar,[/b] Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, ME, 2000, and XP to ensure that you'll be up and running on a wireless network in just a matter of seconds. The DWL-122 also features 64 or 128-bit WEP encryption providing a level of security for the data that you wirelessly transmit.

Does that mean it's only supported in jaguar? (Nothing above?)

If USB isn't an option which Airport card do i need?
If possible could you point me to it on Apple's UK store, or another apple retailer and give me a make and model No so i can look on eBay/Froogle UK.
Also, will an airport card work with that router.

The D-Link dongle is £21.26 Inc VAT. Should i go for that?

I really appreciate your help! :D

Thankyou.

Actually it means that the USB dongle is supported in jaguar and panther. So, you could go for it, but I would still consider the airport extreme card.
What you need is: Apple airport extreme card.
It will be much more expensive than the d-link dongle, but still worth..

Thanks for the help guy's.
I'll have to wait till after xmas before i decide what to do. For now my ibook will have to be plugged in by ethernet. :)
