A silly question about down jackets

I have this winter jacket made of down and it got really wet in the rain, and now it stinks! Any quick way to get rid of this damp rainy smell?? Its gross!!! Whats the best way to wash one of these things....

Apparently you can wash down jackets and then dry with some tennis balls in a dryer to help with fluffing. Google drying down jackets.

Febreeze it after it is totally dried. To dry just spread it out over a chair or something that'll keep it open & exposed to air, and air dry (a small electric fan nearby can help speed the process up)...DON'T USE A MACHINE DRIER! I'm sure others have done it and that's fine, but I wouldn't take the chance. If you have to put it in a drier, then only use the air (no heat) mode. Personally I'd rather not buy a new drier or spend my weekend picking feathers out of it.

I had the same problem with a heavy winter jacket the fire department gave me and it worked well for that. (( I never did quite understand what they were thinking...giving us jackets to wear on duty that weren't waterproof. ))

I've used the stuff from camping shops that is used for down sleeping bags.

Soak overnight in a cool solution. Dry slowly.

You may need a re-proofing spray. They sell this in camping shops too!!
