A stupid question...But

My friend has an old imac (OS9). He has just got 2 new eMacs (10.3.6). He gave the new eMacs a fixed IP (192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20 subnet 255.255.255.0 and no router. I'm not shure how the OS9 mac is set up , It is used to dial up to the net and download mail only. All macs are connected to a small unmanaged 8 port ethernet hub. Both new eMac's can see the OS9 iMac with no problem but they cannot see each other. Even if you type in the IP address for the other eMac it says "server not responding"?

Any ideas what we are doing wrong??

Not sure if I got it right. Here my questions:
ping old iMac <-> new eMac1 : works
ping old iMac <-> new eMac2 : works
ping new eMac1 <-> new eMac2 : fails
?

yes, thats correct

did you note that "<->" stands for both directions? I am asking, since it's quite confusing to me that you can ping from the old iMac to the new eMac using 192.168.0.10 but doing the same from the second new eMac instead of the old iMac wouldn't work (even though it is successfully integrated to the network).. Did you use the uplink connection of the hub for any of these three macs? What IP does the OS9 old iMac have, since you are successfully pinging it? Could it be that you are using machine names instead of ip addresses for ping?
