hey i was wondering: i have an older 8mm video cam corder, and i want to edit my video on my mac, but i don't know how to or if it is possible
I was wondering if adapters exsisted that did the converting for me, i'd really like to know... thanks
The short answer is yes you can, but you need special hardware to do it. You'll most likely want to use iMovie to do the editing, and I highly recommend the book "iMovie 2: The Missing Manual". Altho the book says you need a Digital8/MiniDV camcorder this not true as long as you have a supported media converter for sending your analog video thru, you can also use many Digital8/MiniDV camcorders as a converter. Also, if you look at sony's Digital8 models, some of them have the ability to read Hi8 tapes directly and send them to the computer.

There are two devices that do it (well, there are more...but at any rate), the first one is a bit older, and is the Dazzle Hollywood Bridge (rca / firewire) http://www.dazzle.com, and now on the apple website, the Formac video something something something.
Or you can get a digital video cam, and transfer from the analog to that, then to the comp through firewire. And back to the dv cam through firewire.
