Abnormal User account Problem

Hi Guys

Luckily ive been browsing your forums for a while and never had to register, but now. unluckily (for me) i have come across something i just cant get my head round.

Ive just picked up a 2nd hand G5 (2Gb DP, 4gb Ram running 10.2.8) which is mainly for music production use. When i got it home i tried changing the user account to me rather than setting up a new one (also there are files/programs that i wish to keep using). When i restarted OS X wouldnt boot and i was getting a blue screen. I re-installed and still no joy logging in so i logged into the root account and set up my new account with the intention of deleting the old one.

As with other macs ive used, i logged in as me and deleted the old account with it saving the dmg in users>deleted users as normal. The only problem is that i still have the option of logging into that account on start-up (although it wont let me) and also it appears in the sys.prefs.>accounts folder.

Any ideas on how to get it out of my life for good?

Hi Incubated Funk and welcome to the forum.

Open System Preferences -> Accounts. How many user do you see? Is your old account still listed? If so, simply delete it.
Btw, how did you manage to get the previous system to get messed? How did you "change the user account to" yours? Hope you didn't simply rename the home folder.. ;)

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

If i look in syetem preferences -> Accounts i see 2 accounts. Mine and the old one. When i click delete it does what it should (ie creating the dmg in users-> deleted) but the account is still visible at login and in the above mentioned accounts folder.

As for messing things up, well, im not so sure. I just renamed the original account and password. There was a crash not long after i did this though where i had to switch off at the tower (i presume this has done something to the original account as a few programs are having "issues")

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, very strange. Deleting an account, that will show up again.. Sounds like some permissions are messed. Did you try repairing permissions?
