about to buy a new imac.

i'm about to pre-order a new 17" imac and i've got a question. if i order 512 RAM from them, do i get that RAM in the inaccessible part of the imac so i can upgrade to 1gig later?

No. The RAM on the board is always 128mb. Any extra RAM you order is installed in the upgrade slot for you.

If you order any more than 640, there will be more than 128 in the first slot, BUT don't order until the new powermacs come out, you might get a price cut!

i need it before i go off to college. i'm kinda bummed that i can't put more than 512 + 128 in it unless i buy ram from apple (read: freaking rip off).

I got the 800 version about a month ago with 256 in 1 and 256 in the other. 512 is enough for me!
