About to install a Xerox 8550 printer - any tips?

Installing a Xerox 8550 colour laser printer on a local system at home. G4 Quicksilver + Airport Extreme base (wired in) + iBook on wi-fi. HP 960 Deskjet currently on USB from Airprt Base.

Are the drivers already in 10.4.8 or do I need to install the stuff from the CD?

Options are network printer connected to ethernet or USB at the Airport Extreme Base station. I'm assuming that the ethernet hub connection would be better. Is this true? I've never installed a network printer before so any tips?

For network printing, you need to read the manual for what protocols are supported. If LPD or IPP, you need to also find the queue name in the manual, to enter it in Printer Setup.

And yes, if the printer has an ethernet port, that is better than USB to Airport Extreme/Express.

Connect the printer via Ethernet. It will be available to all computers in your home. All protocols are supported including Appletalk, IPP, Windows networking, etc. Xerox has supported Bonjour for years. Long story short--there is nothing easier than setting-up a networked printer for use with your Mac.

Thanks all. It needed a newer driver. I installed it using the Xerox CD and then set it up in the Utility as a Bonjour. Seems to work with the MAC address.
