Access PC harddrive

My friend have an USB external windows formated harddrive which is broken. He messed it up and cant get access to it any more.

Is there anything I can do or try to do to help him from my Mac? He just wants to try to rescue as many files as possible. Will any Mac program recognize a PC formated disc?
 
If it's formated as Fat32, the Mac will read/write to it. Maybe you can get files off that way.
 
Thanks! Is that what it's formated in normally? He can not access it as the sectors or something is broken. Can maybe the new Genius do something?
 
You would have to ask what the drive was formated in.
If it was formatted NTFS, you can only read it from Mac, I think you may be able to get files off it, if it mounts.
Give it a try.
