Access Time Machine Backup From Other Machine

I'm running Time Machine to back up my iMac onto a Western Digital network disc. Works like a champ. But if my iMac dies, how do I get access to my backup data? I tried running Time Machine in my laptop so I could option click on its menubar icon to choose Browse Other Time Machine Discs, but the list that comes up is null. I tried running Back In Time on the laptop, but it couldn't see my desktop's Time Machine disc either.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

On your Laptop...
you need to log onto your NAS drive, locate and open the TM dmg file.
Now it should show up as a selection when you check "Browse other Time Machine disks"

I just tried this and it works for me.

Thanks, that sounds like what I need to do. However, when I "log onto" my NAS drive (I use Safari bonjour, select the drive and enter my password) I am presented with five options: Setup, Users, Shares, Backups, and Support. None of these shows me the TM dmg file. So how do I mount the TM volume?

Try going to the top Finder menu-bar,
Select 'Go' then 'Go to Server',
Then select 'Browse', hopefully you should be able to locate your TM backup.

Yes, I can do that. I can see the backup volume. But when I try to mount it, I get an immediate Connection Failure. When I click on Connect As, I get nothing. So how do I mount it?
