Okay, I searched the forums and couldn't find something specific to my problem. I have also searched the Internet via Google and found little help. Hopefully there's someone here who can provide some assistance.

iBook info:
G4 1.2 GHz processor
1.25 GB RAM
Combo Drive
OS 10.4.xx installed

A few days ago my iBook G4 stopped staying asleep, but not in every situation. Here are the various scenarios....
  • Close lid, computer plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up;
  • Close lid, computer not plugged in, computer stays asleep;
  • Choose "Sleep" from menu, computer plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up; and
  • Choose "Sleep" from menu, computer not plugged in, cd drive sounds like it spins and the computer wakes back up.

I should note that there is nothing in the CD drive; it's empty. I tried such things as resetting the nvram, pram and pmu, all to no avail. Last night I reformatted and reinstalled the original system software using the original installation disks, which put me back to OS 10.3.xx. STILL DOESN'T WORK!

Does anyone have any ideas at all?

TIA!

With some of the ibooks you can take off the keyboard via the locking taps at the top right and top left. Flip over the keyboard and then is a little access door held down by four screws. Remove four screws and access door and airport extreme card (if installed). Once inside the access door the flex cable for the optical drive connection to the logic board is right there. Unplug that cable from logic board, semi reassemble, then test.
