Address Book Question

OSXer
I have a home network set up and I was wondering if there's anyway that I could have my Address Book so it will sync with my wife's Address Book on her Mac and vice versa. I'd like it so if I make a change to it hers will update and if she changes hers mine will update.

Yeah a real easy - and legal - way to do this is to use iSync, an internet connection and a .mac account. I have three machines and an iPod that all are synchronized automatically. My contacts, bookmarks, etc...

Apple's .mac account will cost you $99/year, but you can sign up for a trial membership if you just want to check it out. I'm on a trial membership and I've decided to subscribe.

Some other features that come with the membership can be found by following the link above.

evildan,

Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to just use iSync through a local network without having to use a .mac account?

I'm sure there is...

Did a quick search on the site and found this:

I should warn you, this is still considered a sketchy subject. The official word is not out as to if it's illegal to do this. There doesn't seem to be any limitation on Apple's EULA indicating that you MUST use a .mac account to utilize transfer between two macs. However, it is a borderline hack of a program. It is all dependent on if you consider this an application enhancer or a hack that allows you to avoid the .mac account purchase.

Until I'm told otherwise, I'll consider it an application enhancement.

IF you only want to do a 1-time dump, rather than ongoing transfers, you can save your contacts as a vCard file, network the file to her Mac, and import it.

You can also try setting up an LDAP server on your Mac, but good luck with that; I've had no luck...
