AFP connections with 10.4.5>

Hi there!

We've just purchased some new g5's here at work and I'm having trouble with using afp://server_name connections.
Machines come pre-installed with 10.4.4 and afp works fine. As soon as it's upgraded to 10.4.5 it no longer works and gives a -35 error.
Does the 10.4.6 update fix this issue or have they stopped supporting this connection type now?

Cheers in advance,

Rich

Hi Mudfrog

I have the same issue when the update came out, try smb://server_name this might help, but, I suspect that there is a flaw in the update. The other issue happen when saving files to the network share, these would corrupt and become unreadable, the work around was to save to the desktop first then move the file to the share.

A word of wisdom, befrore updating to a new update, wait a few weeks to see if there is any issues in other forums. Then backup before installing.
Apple have pushed out updates and it's screwed a few machines up (os 9.0.2)

good luck.

Thanks for your reply Rogue ;)

Just to let you know that the 10.4.6 update does cure the afp problems but there is an issue with Indesign CS and packaging files so I'm gonna stick with 10.4.4 as this does the job for them.

I do have a policy of if it ain't broke don't fix it so I don't really push updates to machines when there working perfectly ok as they are.
Onlt thought of the update on thesemachines as they were new and thought wihile there in my hands now I would do the update.

The smb://server_name solution does work connection wise but like you say some of the files are unreadable if they've been uploaded to the server with the afp protocol.

Cheers,

Rich

What problem is there with InDesign and packaging files? I'm using InDesign CS (not CS 2) and 10.4.6 and package files all the time... Or do you mean packaging to networked volumes?

There was an issue with another G5 machine that I put in place a few weeks ago. It had 10.4.6 and Indesign CS installed, and crashed when packaging files to a place on the local hardrive. It just crashed everytime and asked to send error report to apple.
So I dropped it down to 10.4.5 and it was fine. Might not do it on every 10.4.6 install but it did with this particular machine.

Cheers,

Rich

Just asking is the G5 a Twin CPU? I had an issue that a G5 had a bad cpu, Apple had to replace the Logic and CPU's!!!! The mac kept crashing at odd times, I ran the Hardware test and the CPU's Failed on thermo sync.

try running the Hardware test on the install disc. Good luck
