Airport & Adelphia

powermac

iMac Dual 2.0 17'
I lost my internet connection the other day, via airport. Adelphia claimed it changed DNS servers or something and my airport base station was unable to find a host. I currrently have my G4 hooked up via ethernet. Through my aiport I have my old imac, and ibook hooked through.

Are there any suggests to hooking my aiport back up? Thank you!

Did you have your airport set up to get its IP via DHCP or did you enter a fixed IP? A simple first test would be to just unplug your modem and the airport. Then plug in the modem count to say sixty and then plug in the airport.

If it was all set up for DHCP then you should be up and running. If not then we need a bit more information about your modem, airport and their configurations.

My airport was DHCP. I unplugged the airport and modem several times. Did a reset on the airport, etc. Aldephia told me that my airport was looking for a DNS server for several hours and did not find on. I had to plug directly into my G4, I have no airport network. I tried the other day again to no use.

Check the ip addresses for the DNS servers listed in the modem and compare them to those in the Airport. If they are not the same then manually set the airport DNS entries to match those in the modem.

Here is the deal. They changed (adelphia) to another DNS server. I can't add it manually because the name is too long for the box in the airport configuration file.

You need to use the numeric IP address for your DNS any way since there is not a DNS server to look the DNS server up from until DNS is up...

Ouch my brian hurts...

I am way confessed and not up on the network stuff. All I know is the network name is ny-utica2e-87.aburny.adelphia.net

is used to be just aburny.adelphia.net

The IP address is assigned dynamic, it changes. They told me that my router (Airport) was looking for a dns server, did not find one. It appears to be the case, when ever I try it, nothing happens.

Thanks you for help. Accuse my ignorance.

Normally, the dhcp server should give your machines the IP# of your dns. It can't be assigned as a name, since names need to be translated into numbers to make sense to your computer, and the translation is done by the dns server. If you don't have the ip# for the dns server you will never find it, unless you have another dns server...

So, it probably has something to do with your AirPort base station not receiving the dns information from the dhcp server, or not being able to comprehend it. Try updating the AirPort base stations software to the latest version, and see if that helps.

All of sudden it works, have no idea why. Just did another reset, both router, modem, and computer, and it works. Now I can sit outside with my laptop again. HA Thank you all for your help
