Airport connection keeps dropping

Hello, I have a iMac G3 500 with an airport card (the old one). Ever since upgrading my router to a D-Link 802.11g, the iMac seems to drop its connnection over and over. Signal strength is high, it just drops the network connection and is usually fine with a restart.

There was an Airport upgrade available and I just ran it, but the problem seems to still occur. I saw this thread: http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48512&highlight=airport+connection

I may try "cleaning up and resetting", but does anyone have any potential tips before I try that? P.S. I have a IBM Thinkpad that connects to the same router flawlessly, though it has a 802.11g card. Is this a g - b thing you think? I thought that was not a problem?
 
Hey neighbor! Well, some Macs do! Just this little iMac seems to be having real issues (meaning those not caused my me and my lack of understanding!). My wife would love an iBook, so perhaps she is sabotaging her iMac! :-) Really, the only problem I have here in Mt. Airy is all the darn bakeries in nearby Chestnut Hill. I have no self control...

Do you have any ideas on how to trouble shoot this issue?

If this just happened since you upgraded the router, you may have a probem with the Router.

If you have security setup on the router/airport, try disabling that and see if it drops.

If you have locations set to connect, try deleting and set to connect automatically.

Also try changing the Channel it uses it the Router steup.
 
Hey Bob - it seems to be working much better today. I actually tried the auto location option just before checking back here. It may be that and/or the airport upgrade that is improving things. I'll keep an eye on it.

I don't feel 6 months in Philly gives me the right to be a true fan, but I am getting quite geeked up about the Eagles and reading everything in sight. All this underdog stuff is fine, but they have a lot of heart and an awesome defense. I think it will be a very interesting game and they certainly have a shot. The pats are like some kind of machine - maybe like the Borg in Star Trek - while Philly has way more character and heart (certainly you can say the same about the fans!). Go Eagles!
 
Well, I'd love to see the Eagles win, but if I were to bet, it would be on the Patriots.
