I have a "g" APE and an "n" APE. I have the base station as the "g" currently. Without a lot of detail, my "system" crashed the other day and I had to reset everything.
I noticed that when in the room with the base station (g), I am on the innernets at 14mbs. In the other room that is supposed to be "joining the network" (the APE 'n'), about 75 feet way, I get on at .3. No Really. Point three. So, I spent 2 hours yesterday and 2 today attempting some configuration that would allow either 1) WDS or 2) extending the network.
The only config that I have been able to work is "G" as "Creating a network" and "N" as "Joining a network."
So here's my question. Do you think I could actually benefit by setting up the newer "N" as the Base station, and that the APE would allow the WDS config with the "G"? (I could not get a WDS with "G" as the base. I am thinking I spent a lot of time trying to set up something that can't be set up, but as we all know, it is difficult to find the "you can't do this" information with anything. A simple "there is no way to setup the old and new technology so you can make it work properly" would be fine...but instead all there is is "to set up do this and this" and never the asterisk that says "and if they both aren't the newest technology you are wasting your time," which, as I say, would be fine, if I could get an answer answer....
so, ....nothing but flashing amber doing anything EXCEPT setting up "G" as a "Create a network," and "N" as join a network. Not even "N" as "extend" a network...flash flash flash.I didn't try the "G" under "Extend a network" but creating a WDS does not work with "G" as the base station.
Since I don't know if it's possible after using the paperclip, resetting the APEs, resetting the modem, unplugging the modem and the ethernet, resetting with a paper clip, rescanning rescanning, looking for the network, resetting the network names, and the passwords, and the password for the APE and the individual APE passwords, resetting the base station, entering which is the base station, which is a remote, then which is a relay, then back to the airport ids, then answering the conflict questions on where is the base station? security? etc. then deciding on 1) does join me join two? or join an existing? Creating mean this starts the process? then Participating means I can have one that is a creation and the other is a participation? Or, do I participate with both together individually first then not? I have it set up as "G" as the base station and "N" as the "join" and that's it.
Oh, then there's the green light, everyting successful, congratulations yet can't get on, so I have to unplug, test the ethernet, reboot, retest, unplug the modem, get the paper clip....
So, back to the actual question: Can I set up the "N" as the base, the "G" as the remote/relay whichever that is supposed to be, in a WDS, or will the "G" not work with WDS at all? (There is no answer to this I have been able to find yet). Or, is this going to matter? Or, can the "G" actually be the base station with the "N" as the remote or the relay as I can't figure out what the difference is? I have the network names, everything supposedly confirmed including the Airport IDs for the addressing and the IDs and the remote/replays and who is the base and who isn't.
I signed on after spending a total of 4 hrs and I can now get on in the room 75 away from the base station (G) with the (N) at 1mbs vs. the .3 (vs 14 sitting next to the (G).)
I assume it's because it is 5pm on a Sunday and the tweens aren't sending sexted messages to each other after school.
Thanks in advance.
