i cant get airport express to share the internet, its letting people join the network but only the first person to connect can use the net
i have an adsl modem (dsl-300g) which is connected to the net
by default the ethernet port on the modem is set to 10.1.1.1
i can see using the modems built in webserver that it is connected to the net with the ppp ip address of 203.217.43.187
the modem is connected to the airport express via an ethernet cable,
the ethernet port on the aiprort express is set to 10.1.1.3
at the moment that ip address is set manually,
though i have also tried using dhcp.
my airport card has connected to the wireless network using dhcp
and has set the settings
ip 203.217.43.187
mask 255.255.255.255
router 203.217.43.187
i'm suprised that that works but here i am happily netting away.
but if anyone else tries to connect to the net they get something like
ip 10.1.1.4
mask 255.0.0.0
router 10.1.1.1
i'd have thought that that would work, but no, they can ping the airport extreme and the modem, some times even the modem's external ip 203.217.43.187
but thats as far as they can go.
if we all restart our machines, whoever connects first will connect and work, other machines will get 10.1.1.... adresses and not be able to access the net.
does anyone understand this?
if they can ping the external ip, you think they could ping the world, perhaps they can, perhaps the pings just don't find their way back?
any ideas?
thanks for you help
