hi,im going to put an Airport extreme card in my Mac to connect to the Net and i want to know if i need the base station aswell - we've got a PC in another room and that is hooked up to a Netgear wireless module..

Can i just put the card in my Mac and then connect to the PC using the Netgear or do i HAVE to buy a base station?

No, you don't need the base station, the Negear wireless router will work with it.

I use that router and it works great. I opted not to get the Apple router mainly because it costs a lot more. I also didn't care much about streaming my music over the network. A wireless router is a wireless router, more or less.

i use a linksys wireless router to connect to internet and work smoothly with my ibook (with AE)... if you use your mac in your house, you will be fine, but if you want catch long distance signals... then AE is not the smartest choice.. for that ill go with a usb dongle
