Airport Range Issues

I am going nuts. I bought a dual ethernet Airport a few months ago, and I am having SEVERE range issues. I can barely get 10 feet away without losing my signal. I checked the Apple website for possible items that may interfere(2.4 Ghz phones, microwaves, certain coax cables, etc...)
I have NO sources of interference. I can barely get across the computer room with my iBook without losing the signal, much less into the next room. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I am getting really frustrated. One more thing: Which wireless cards for Windows are known to work well with Airport? Thanks in advance...PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Hmm, check that the iBook's antenna cable is firmly connected to the card. That's all I've got off the top of my head... Have you confirmed that the iBook communicates with any other devices?

It communicates fine with everything I've connected so far (digi cam, printer, firewire CD RW, etc. Checked the antenna on the card, it's fine. Any other suggestions?
 
You'll want to check and see if the iBook has problems with other wireless base stations. If not, then your base station might be the problem. The most important question right now is "What's messed up? The iBook, or the base station?"

Thanks. Now I just need to find another wireless base station to hook up to. Not sure where I'll do that. Could it be the card, by chance?
 
Yeah, it's entirely possible that the card is to blame. That's why you'll need to try associating with a different base station to be sure. Hopefully the least expensive piece of equipment is the one that's failing. :)

And if you can try connecting a different computer to your base station, this will help determine if it's the base station that's acting up.
 
OK...so let's just say that my $400 BS is bad. I've only had it since April of this year...would Apple replace it? How would I go about doing that?

It's hard to say what kind of replacement you would be able to get from Apple if you got it in April. I'm not sure what kind of warranties the base stations have. But since you've had it that long, I assume the troubles have just started appearing recently... You might want to try reconfiguring the base station to use a different channel. Perhaps something else has been put into service near your residence, and it's broadcasting on the same channel.
