Airport screwing with my head

Hi,

I've got just two machines that I want to network together wirelessly, a Windows XP machine, which I'd like to serve the internet to a DP1Ghz G4. The G4 is plugged into it's Airport card, all ready to go.

The XP machine has a LinkSys wireless PCI card.

This is as far as I've managed to get I'm afraid. I have not a lot of idea about all the network settings, DHCP, IP addresses etc. I've set up the PC card to be on a 'Ad-Hoc' network, which I believe is correct, and on Channel 11, which I think is the default that Airport uses right?

But I get no joy with the two machines, my only sliver of hope is that the Mac can see the PC as an available Airport connection, with the name I gave it - 'Home'.

I've set up Internet connection sharing on the PC as best I can, and still no hope, to confuse matters more, on the PC, the wireless connection is listed as 'Unavailable' in the network connections folder - when I change a setting on the card (change channel etc) the connection jumps to life, connects, and three seconds later goes back to being unavailable... is this normal behaviour? Should I read 'Unavailable' as 'I can't find any other wireless stuff at the moment' or as 'I'm screwed and not working properly'?

Pulling my hair out here.... you have no idea how grateful I'd be for assistance... :)

Thanks,

-Peter

I know this may be a stupid question but do you just have the two wireless cards or do you have a wireless router as well?
