Airport ssh and ftp question

I have an airport extreme base station connected to my local lan via the WAN port. If I connect it via the LAN port, I get some type of complaints from the configuration software. My T1 comes into the house, through the T1 modem (and router). The router has 8 or 10 ports on the back. One goes to my server. One goes to the airport base station (the WAN port).

All of my computers have fixed IP addresses.

I can not ssh to my laptop (except from my laptop which is probably doing a local loop back). I can ssh out from the laptop. I'm pretty sure sshd is working because I can create a VPN to work which makes my laptop look like foo.dog.com. I can then ssh to foo.dog.com and that works as well. But I can not ssh to my laptop (as its real name) from my server or from work. All of this is also true for ftp.

So, I'm thinking that the airport base station is blocking port 22.

The "Port Mapping" panel of my airport config is empty. In fact, all the buttons are disabled.

Any suggestions?
