airport

Anytime airport drops off wireless at my work they never reconnect. In the network preferences airport is set to automatic. Is there a way to make the connection persistent?

What kind of Wireless Access Point is it, what type of encryption is there (if any) and is there a password to be entered? Are there many other networks around the same place (so it could be that AirPort tries to connect to other networks instead the one you want to use)?

then, your side... What OS version are you using, on what exact computer are you using it and have you tried _not_ to set AirPort to automatically connect?

It's a school using Airspace. THe wireless is set up with WEP encryption. No other networks are around. I've tried setting a network to connect instead of automatic and it is actually worse.

Everyone is using an iBook G4 with 10.3.9, some using 10.4.2. I have to go back and put the network information back in everytime a computer drops off and it's a pain when you have over 600 laptops to maintain.

Create a new Location and configure that with the settings for your work wifi access (WEP info and all). Then create another for the automatic settings. This way, when you're at work, it will always connect since it has the information already configured. Leave the Automatic setting for when accessing hotspots. Just my two cents worth.

I will try this again, but when a set it up with a specific network I had the same problem, when the connection would drop I had to open internet connect and re-establish the connection with the correct name and password.

if you're running 10.4.3, you can set airport to keep looking for preferred networks (select: system prefs>network>airport>airport>options)
