all in one HP scanner problems

When i updated my macs operating system from 10.3 to 10.4 (i think) my hp psc 2355 all in one scanner printer copier stopped scanning. the printer still works, but alas i get a 'unable to communicate with TWAIN data source' message when i try to scan.

the usb cable is connected, the power is on, the driver is updated, i have a powerbook g4. basically im tired of waiting for apple or HP to come out with a new driver. it worked before, now it doesn't. just got the darn thing too...

help please...

tried all those things, repairing the permissions, seeing if the usb is connected to the computer (which it is, the printer works, but the scanner does not) and i would think that my scanner is broken, but i have a friend who said he had a similar problem, but doesn't remember how the guy told him how to fix it...
any other options??
