All me settings are gone

Hi,

I know there are a millions threads on this but im still not sure how it has happened to my Imac.

I did a back up of my photos last night and this morning when i turn my computer on everything was gone.

I found everything in 'users' so set it all up again. restarted my computer and its done it again.

Any ideas of wisdom?
