Allocating memory??

Recently when using internet explorer I have been receiving warnings/messages repeatedly, stating: "Not enough memory to open the plugin Shockwave Flash. Allocating more memory to internet explorer may help". I went in and allocated as much memory as I could, and I still get the message. Anyone know why? Thanks!

Hey Jessica,
it would be very helpful to know what system you have, how much ram, what os...
;)
Does the same occur when you use safari? (why use internet explorer at all?)

zammy, she is using classic. safari needs at least 10.1 or 10.2 .. ;)
welcome, jessica :)
(yea, knowing more about your system, ram etc can help. and when did this thing start to happen?)

If you are on Classic Mac OS (Anything before Mac OS X), do the following:
  • Locate the Internet Explorer application. It should be in a folder called Internet or something like that. If by chance you accessed it from an alias, highlight it and hit Command-R to show the original file.
  • Go to File and select "Get Info"
  • Click on the dropdown list and select "Memory"
  • Change the Preferred Memory setting to something higher than it's currently set to. If by chance the minimal setting is below the recommended minimal setting for the application, change it to either the recommended minimum or a little beyond.

I hope this works for you. One thing to remember, you need to do this after you quit from the Internet Explorer. You can't do this if it's still running in the background somewhere.

Good luck!

Do you have any other programs running when you are using I.E.? Quit them.

In the memory control panel (Apple Menu>Control Panels>Memory) make sure you have Virtual memory turned on and Ram disk turned off.

Exact settings can only be recommended when we know what OS and how much memory you have installed.
