On Monday we reported that Amazon.com was offering Mac OS 10.2 ("Jaguar") at a special price of US$79 as compared to Apple's retail price of $129. However, that offer has been pulled, at least temporarily.

"The demand exceeded our wildest expectations," Amazon.com spokesperson Ling Hong told MacCentral. "We're taking stock to see if we'll reinstate the offer, but we're not continuing the rebate at this time."

However, if you placed an order for Jaguar, don't panic. Hong said that Amazon.com would honor all orders placed by 7 pm (Pacific), Wednesday, July 31.

Bastards... Due to unexepected demand? They should of figured they would sell a lot considering that they where underselling everyone by $50.

I had a feeling something like this was going to happen.

I also wouldn't be surprised if people never get their rebates or if it takes months to get them.

I went to Amazon the other night, downloaded the coupon, set my account there back up, and before I went all the way through it....I had a bad gut feeling about it...

So I stopped the order.

Of course, one could argue that had I proceeded I would have made it in under the wire.

But, I am going to be at an Apple store on August 24th. Copy in hand...hopefully.

I wish you all luck. :)

Please wish some for me too hehe...It could be like the Cabbage Patch Kids all over again. Swarms of people fighting over Jaguar.
