Near the end where it says Other Features like Bluetooth, TWAIN, etc. it clearly says Amd support!!!

Now, I don't know if they mean THAT Amd but... Isn't this a bit strange?

If anyone knows some extra on this matter, let us know ASAP!

I don't know if anyone else posted this before so excuse me for possible double posting!

im wondering if this is amd amd or if its amd, something different...

interesting indeed eh?

Actually AMD is the AutoMount Daemon. It's a UNIX program that handles automatically mounting and unmounting remove file systems on an as needed basis. type: 'man amd' at a shell prompt in terminal for all the details.

And for the consumer: The Automount Daemon (amd) puts that CD's icon on your desktop when you insert it in your drive. ;)

I'm sorry Fryke, but you call ME arrogant?

Well, if we want to get technical, btoneill answered quite nicely what amd meant. Fryke made a further clarification that wasn't asked for by labeling anyone unfamiliar with the automount daemon's function as a "consumer".

I apologize for any misunderstanding.

you're right it was answered nicely, but what about those of us who need it in "plain english"? which would in general be a normal consumer, no need to get all upset because he made it clearer and simpler for those of us who need it.

yea, those of us who are not so clear and very simple need that kind of explanation. :D

actually i really appreciate it when people explain in layman's or consumer's terms. i don't get half the tech talk more than half the time.

hmm... I've put a ;) behind it. To ease those who would think I'm arrogant. (Which I probably am, but with a nice touch.) I've wanted to answer the thread ALL DAY long and couldn't because of the permissions problem, and when I finally COULD answer the thread, btoneill already had.

I wanted to answer it as well but couldn't. That was most frustrating. I'm glad the permissions are fixed.

So does this mean no one understands anything I say? :)

I guess the sad part is.... I thought I put it into terms for the normal user, I could have gone into it's entire history, and the differences between AMD and automount, but ofcourse, I think I already did that in another post awhile back :)

I thought both yours and fryke's answers were good. Some people may not have realized mounting and unmounting file systems was as simple as inserting and ejecting a CD.

Amd controls mounting/unmounting of USB and Firewire hard drives and the iPod as well. Even more food for thought.
