Another bootcamp question

Hi,

After a while of messing about I finally have got bootcamp working just great (minus a few wireless device issues) but now something strange has happened.

On the windows xp side everything is fine the start up disk shows tiger and xp so I can select and retstart BUT now all of a sudden it has disappeared from the mac side, so I can't select it to retstart on the mac side because it isn't there. There also is no disc icon on my mac desktop :( I tried to mount from the disc utility but no joy, but like I said apart from that it works fine, just a pain because I have to now shut down from the mac side, restart and hold the alt key to select windows.

Can anyone help?

Holding down the "option" or "alt" key at startup doesn't let you select a different volume?
 
yes it does, but i can't use the startup disk inside osx to select xp on restart as it doesn't show up :(
