Any Discover Card users out there?

I'm just curious how many people in here that use OS X also use a Discover Card. As many of you may know Discover offers an online tool called DeskShop that is similar to other card's e-wallet tools.

Deskshop 1.0 supported Mac OS 9 and back. I really liked using it because it created encrypted, one-time use numbers making online shopping much more secure.

Anyway, DeskShop 2.0 came out about 6-9 months ago supporting only Windows, disabling DS 1 use for Mac people. Wanting this functionality back and in OS X, I e-mailed them to ask if they were planning on supporting modern Mac users.

After several months they finally e-mailed back saying I'm the only one that has requested Mac OS X DeskShop support, and that due to little to no interest, DeskShop OS X support is not planned or likely to be planned. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only OS X user interested in this.

I'm considering switching credit cards, but first I want to try an e-mail campaign to show Discover that meeting the needs of Mac users matters.

Thanks for letting me vent a little frustration, and please, if you're so inclined, send them messages letting them know that Mac OS X users can't be ignored.

I make online credit card purchases all the time at Amazon and a few othe places. Those sites use strong encryption, so I think that extra software is a waste anyway. Besides, I rotate every month which cards I use for certain purchases. I know if something is wrong right a way.
 
There are some sites that I just feel safer using these e-wallet type tools because they don't have the reputation of the Amazon.coms.

This issue is really more about their non-support for ANY Mac OS than the value of the tool. Macs are more and more compatible with things these days, but it's little things like this that still annoy me. DeskShop is a Flash-based tool (if I understand correctly). It seems like making it OS X compatible would be relatively easy.

Here's the response I got back from them after submitting a request for OS X support:

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding Discover Deskshop. Unfortunately Discover Deskshop is not compatible with the Macintosh(R) system. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Unfortunately, we do not have any plans for a compatible version for Macintosh.

We appreciate your patience and hope you will consider utilizing Discover Deskshop for all your online shopping needs with another operation system.

Thank you for choosing to use Discover Card.

Yeah! Another "operation system"? No thank you very much! :rolleyes:
 
I think it is time for you to repay the favor.

Put Discover out to pasture.

Their card and customer service seems to have really declined the past few years.

When you cancel, tell them your Mac means as much to you as Windows does to them.

Apologize for the inconvenience and thank them for allowing you to choose a better card.

Hmm.. I use my Discover card all the time. I didn't know such software ever existed. :rolleyes:

Regardless, I think I'd feel more comfortable just typing it into my web browser. All I look for is the little secure "gold lock" at the bottom and I'm good to go.

If I used this software, I'd be with you though.
 
Actually, I've tried using their Deskshop software (on Windoze) a couple of times (a while back), and it failed miserably. Maybe it's gotten better since then.

I'll considering ditching the card, but it's the only card I have that allows me to download my statements directly from within Quicken for free (although that's failed the last several times I've tried it :mad: ). Furthermore, I like getting cash back (the piddly few dollars that it is). D'oh! Why does everything have to be a dilemma? :rolleyes: :)

Oh yes, and I have a bit of a fondness for Discover because they were the only company to give me a card when I was a credit-less 18-year-old college student. :p
 
Like others, Discover Card was my first card, and I like the online tools (free payment, Quicken downloads, etc.) it provides. Plus, I'm darn close to reaching platinum status.

I recieved the reply listed above, and I sent a reply back telling them that I'm strongly considering switching cards. They told me they'd "forward my request to the proper department."

I don't know. Maybe I'm just a Mac guy trying to start a fight in a PC world. Anyway, maybe if enough Mac users threaten to switch cards they might listen to us and do something. Or maybe not.

We'll see.

Say, have you had problems downloading your statements from within Quicken? Every time I've tried recently it's failed. :mad:

So how long have you been using your card? I got their platinum card after about four or five years only.
 
I've had my card about four years and a couple of my friends who use theirs as much as I do went platinum in their fifth year.

As for Quicken, the last time I tried it, it worked perfect. That was about a month ago though. Since I'm in between apartments, I have no Internet connection for my Mac. From high speed DSL to nothing, the poor thing just looks sad when Software Update pops up and can't do anything.
