I placed my order with Macwarehouse on 9.19.03 and I'm still waiting for it. Apparently after my credit card processed, they went out of stock. Anybody else received theirs yet?

Naw. Still waiting for my 1GHz aBook, I placed my order 2 days after it was annonced...

I got mine yesterday after a few extra days of dealing with apples stupid shipping procedures

I love it.

any questions?

How does it feel speed wise compared to a Dual G4 >= 800MHz?

Does it get hot?

Does the back light work ok for you?

Is the new Radeon Mobility really THAT fast?

These for now ;)

Oh, enjoy your new PowerBook! :)

>How does it feel speed wise compared to a Dual G4 >= 800MHz?
no idea, the only macs I have ever really used are all old imacs and my previous 500mhz tibook. its pretty damn fast though

>Does it get hot?
warm but I wouldnt say hot. I havent done any disc burning or really intensive stuff yet though. definite improvement over the tibook especially considering the speed bump

>Does the back light work ok for you?
backlight is cool but I touch type so it isnt much of a benefit to me. the best thing about it is the dynamic brightness of both the backlight AND the main display. I walked from a dark room to a bright room last night and it was shocking

>Is the new Radeon Mobility really THAT fast?
so far so good. I only have warcraft 3 on hand to test it out but it was going at a good clip at highest resolution and maxed out detail

how does it feel when you have the lid closed and take it in your hands? The tibook kinda feels a bit soft and less robust. I was very surprised about the 12'' alubook. Feels like a massive piece of metall. Same to the 15inch book?
And is there enough space between the lid and the keyboard? The tibook tend to get marks on the screen caused by the keyboard

Well, it is a massive piece of metal. Well, maybe not massive, but, you know.

I believe that is why they put the new hinging mechanism in. All the AlBooks have hinge mechanisms like the iceBooks.

Early iBooks (ice) had that problem too, though. But Apple has issued this problem with better rubber thingies, I believe... Mine doesn't get the marks, and I've had it for some time now...

it feels a lot bigger than my old tibook, I think its the new screen hinge setup - which also looks like it should prevent markings from the keyboard

I got tired of waiting for Macwarehouse (CDW) so I reordered from JandR.com. They even price matched it. I should be getting my powerbook on Wednesday!

What's an easy way of copying my preferences from my powermac to my powerbook? copying the library:preferences folder?

Would it be faster to move my files (several GB's) via 802.11b or some kind of direction connection via firewire (it's possible right?)

fbp,

i was wondering how you are getting 4+ hours to your powerbook. are your bluetooth and airport off? Even with those off, my battery indicator says about 2 hours of time remaining after a full charge.

With most devices off, low brightness, loaded apps instead of loading/quitting, not playing music or videos while doing anything else or if you prefer keep a low multitasking as well as once a week maintaining your mac, 4 hours can be over-topped :D

Well, I am working with full brightness, konfabulator, networking a lot (even filetransfer), using office X, checking mails all 5 mins and surfing.... 4 hours and my tibook turns off. Of course have some, let me call, thinking moments so nothing happenes (taking a short nap) ;)

fuzz,
a combination of low to medium brightness and the fact that I tend to not do anything too processor intensive. airport is always on and bluetooth is as yet always off, other than that I dont know what the difference could be.

try running your battery all the way down and then recharging fully.

oh, and the battery time is misleading, or at least mine is. sometimes it will jump around every few seconds, and it usually lasts for about 40 minutes more than it thinks it will originally
