Anyone else?

This is totally beside everything related to computers, but I thought I'd post it anyway..

Does anyone else here love biking? I'm not talking about mototbikes, but "regular" bikes. I saw that Tormente had a bike, linked from the "Picture Of Your Setup"-thread (here). So at least there's one more here.. :)
I love biking. Through forests, in rain, on roads etc. Can't live without it. I think I'm a bike-oholic.. :)

I have a kick ass Robinson BMX bike. I think the tires are flat... so I cannot ride it right now. I should fix it so I can go places... since I do not have gas money for my car.

I don't know what I'd do without my roadbike. Parking is IMPOSSIBLE at my university, and who'd wanna drive anyway? My favorite thing is passing mountain bikers. Actually, my favorite thing is casually, effortlessly passing mountain bikers who are struggling along. :p But no, I don't wear all kinds of gaudy clothing. What's up with bikers and all the bright colors? Magpies?

Passing mountain bikers, homer? :) Doesn't roadbikers like mountainbikers? (I have noticed some strange looks...)
I don't know why some bikers love (tacky) bright colors. Show off perhaps?

I used to bike when I was living in Washington state, but I haven't picked it up here in Arizona.

I do have to comment that when I rode my bike in Washington, I got very strange looks if I didn't wear the "approved baggy shorts and oversized shirt" while riding. No one wore anything tight, even the road bikers. In Tucson, everyone wears bright colored spandex. The drivers in Tucson are a frightening sight, so I can't blame the bikers for wanting to be seen. :p

I want a trike. Here's a pic. A little out of my price range right now... But very cool bike nonetheless. Their hompage is http://www.greenspeed.com.au/ for anyone who actually wants to read about the bikes (trikes, technically).

Oh, mountainbikers are perfectly decent human beings. :) However, they don't know what they're missing. I relish my feeling of superiority as I speed past 'em.

The thing I REALLY don't get is people who don't take care of their bikes. You know, when you can hear people coming from far away because their chains are so rusty that they squeal. What's up with it? Poor bikes. I should confiscate them a la Jerry Seinfeld's mechanic. . . . :D

nkuvu: aren't those things called recumbent bikes? There are TONS of them in Madison. They look quite comfy, but if I were riding one I wouldn't be speed king. :D

Ya, they're recumbents. I don't know how they measure up on speed, I know you can push harder with your legs since you have something to push against. This may be outweighed by the physical weight of the bike (no pun intended).

I personally want a recumbent trike, not recumbent bike. *sigh* Someday... I'll win the lottery...

Well, I've never ridden one, but from what I've seen, the people riding the recumbents haven't been straining too hard. Whether that's because they just can't go fast, or because they're out for a sunday "stroll" of sorts, I dunno.

What kind of price range are the recumbent trikes?

i have a red/orange trek 820 that gets a lot of use... it's my commuter bike.... i should get a roadbike to go a bit faster, but then i couldn't hop curbs or be nearly as aggressive as i get... avoiding cars on Chicago streets requires some inventive routes. ;)

Ouch, that's a whole lot o' bread for a bike. Or a trike.

One thing I love about Madison, WI, is that it is pretty bike-friendly. Lots of bike lanes, and drivers have learned to watch out for bikes (for the most part). I haven't been doored yet. *knock on wood* I've had some close calls biking in the snow, though. I don't think I'm going to bike in snow that's more than an inch deep anymore. :)

My cousin was a bike messenger in DC, and he used a big ol' mountain bike with slick tires (and Mr Tuffy ;) ) for his biking. He went as fast as anyone else on a bike in DC...

I've done the Cycle Across Maryland (about 300 miles in 6 days) for five years - I took a break last summer but I hope to do it again this year.

It's grand. And they have a Shower Truck! A truck! With showers in it! Hah!

And my mom's a huge bike junkie. So she got a pretty nice bike, and then she got a totally kick-ass one, and so I inherited the pretty nice one since I'm the only other cyclist in the family.

And oh, don't even get me started on the clothes. Oh, the clothes. :p

Yeah, it's sad. My heart breakes..
And biking on snow and ice is awful. It's empossible. And the salt they put on the road itsn't really good for the bike either.

nkuvu: ..it's more like a rolling sofa/chair.. :p

Yes, I have a mountain bike, Giant ATX760 (lightest steel frame bike Giant made that year - 1996). I replaced the knobby tires with Continental Conti Top Touring tires so I could ride on the road easier and with a smoother ride. I've done a couple events, 150 mile tour in two days, 2 years consecutively. That was a little hard on the rear end and especially my knees. I purchased the mountain bike because I wanted something a little more rugged so that when I want to go off in the woods and thrash around a bit, I wouldn't ruin a regular K-mart blue light special bike.
