Apple calculator?

Looks like Apple may be looking to purchase HP's calculator division. I guess this is an ingenious way to get into the business sector inexpensively, get back the name recognition into the schools especially higher ed. HP used to dominate the calculator market now TI probably owns 1/2 the market or more. Simplicity, apple can take this baby far. 2/3 of the world can't afford a new mac but 80% of the world will at least once use a calculator why not an Apple Calculator.

Really? I need to read more about this... An Apple calculator? Hmmmm... perhaps they are looking at altering the technology in some way for something else. The calculator manufacture could be adapted to house a pda perhaps?

But if I remember correctly, those calculator housings are a little too big.

This is definitely just a rumor IMHO, even though I would love to get an Apple branded PDA or perhaps an Apple branded Mobile.

What would be the point of an Apple calculator? Texas Instruments already has a good line of calculators that can do almost anything you want, depending on your needs. If Apple made a calculator, it would probably cost too much and only do 5% of the calculations you want. ;)

They're talking about Apple purchasing HP's calculator division, which has always made the best calculators in some people's opinion. Very strong in the financial and scientific areas.

Plus you got their RPN which is interesting to use. Instead of hitting 5 x 5 then an equal sign to get 25, you hit 5 enter 5 x. Loved that in HS because no one else could figure out how to use it, so they never asked to borrow it. Even the Cal teacher had problems with it. The only three teachers I knew who could use it were my Chemistry, Physics, and Economics teachers.
