Apple <=> Toyota. Both last very long, though they may have problems. My dad's 1986 Camry, which I currently drive, has almost 400,000 miles on it, and it's still running quite well. However, I seem to have punched a hole in the muffler, which is covered by a lifetime warranty, so that is something that needs fixing.
Macs are much the same: you can have a 5 or 6 year old computer that runs the latest software quite well, but something can go wrong that needs fixing. Applecare is basically an extendable warranty.
