I though I'd go with a provocative title to get things going.
I was originally going to buy a G5 in January. I am no longer going to. Why? Because Panther has made my DP G4 so much better that I no longer feel the urgent need. The GUI is much better. The workflow is much better (which is as important to me as raw CPU speed). Apps launch faster (about 20-30%) and some apps even perform slightly better (InDesign scrolls a little smoother). Multiprocessor performance is even smoother, and it was already quite good. Sure, I still have to wait five hours to encode a super-high quality DVD, but I'd rather hold out to get that number down to and hour and a half.
I'll definitely go G5 at some point, but I think I can hold it for Steve's promised 3 gig monster next year.
Is anyone else delaying upgrading due to Panther?
