Apple Pro Speakers w/ibook

Will they work on an ibook? I have been reading here that they only work with certain macs. Is this still the case? If so, what speakers should I go with a new ibook?
 
Why on earth would you get terrible speakers like Apple Pro Speakers? I'd suggest getting headphones, myself. Much more portable (which is clearly a consideration since you have a laptop). Sennheisers and Beyerdynamics are good.

They sound bad? I thought they were pretty good... I have some decent Sony headphones, but I still want a setup at home, I don't need to be plugged into the Matrix all the time...:D
 
they are good sounding for computer speakers, but in the overall game computer speakers are not high quality. if your worried about sound quality (the speakers on my teardrop iMac are good enough for me...) get at least a 2.1 sound system, like the JBL creature speakers. they look good with the iBook too!
 
the creature speakers sound bad as well, though not quite as bad as the Apple Pro Speakers. Obviously you've never heard *good* computer speakers. Like I said, I recommend the Klipsch.
 
I've heard a really great pair of speakers w/"ribbon drivers" once, but they were ~$10,000/pair. All the rest I've heard have been mediocre. IMHO, Klipsch makes very decent computer speakers. However, as others have mentioned, better sound may be heard by just plugging your iBook into your home theater/stereo (most likely). Klipsch 2.1's can be had on eBay for relatively little $$$.
