Apple DID once produce such a platform, and it was called Pippin. However, Apple - afaik - never sold it themselves... It was a System 7.x based PowerPC 603 system without a harddrive.

An Apple gaming system would be awesome, but I think they'd have a really hard time getting developers to make games. It would be hard to enter the gaming market now especially since the PS3 and Xbox 2 are already in the works and should be out in the next few years.
