Apple vs Dealers?

Unfortunatley id have to some extent agree with that. I used to work part time in a computer store that was also an Apple reseller they would constantly try to scare customers away from Apple because it only had a 4% - 6% profit margin in the sale of one machine

The store simply used the apple elegance as an attractive way to lure in customers then steer them in another diretion to make a good killing profit. of 20% - 40%. Secondly they sold mac's to secure that particular market in that region.

I hated it and always supported customers to buy Apple's then one day. i suddenly lost my job.

No wonder you here alot of computer sellers say:

* there isnt any games for a mac.
* its not compatable, be very careful i hope you know what your doing.
* there too expensive.
* there is only a one button mouse.
* theres no word processor.
* software is limited.
* expensive to repair and you wont see it for a few weeks.

So not does apple have to convince all its customers it also is competing with every individual computer store in the world and that means millions of people saying those terrible things to people.

its just a simple scare factore. remember the average joe dosent know or care much about a computer like we do they just want to do four basic things.

1) internet
2) word processing
3) games
4) multimedia

Well, sad as it is, if 'Games' are important to a potential customer, they're right to tell them either to get a console or a PC, because the Mac ISN'T up to par there. The other three points? No problem. Apple even excels at Multimedia.

Beware again:
I recently purchased my new iBook at a local dealer (not an Apple store). They were supportive of my decision and answered all my questions, however, they would NOT let me leave that store without purchasing THEIR service plan. Not apples plan, THEIR's. It was crazy expensive, but I understand now why they were doing it ... no profit from the Apple sale, however "if we sell him this service plan, that's $$$$ directly in to our pocket and odds are we'll never see him again!"

It almost seemed as if they didn't want to sell me the computer without selling me the service plan...

I use a credit card for large purchases like this, but have set my limit on this particular "large purchase" card to $2000. I used that to my advantage, stating that I buy it if I had enough money (yeah right).

I would have a much better time having sympathy if this did not start out with Tom Santos @ Macadam.

These folks are pricks. They are very rude. The store is a mess.

Why are they this way? Not because of Apple. They have been like this ever since Computerware closed. They are the ONLY Apple retailer in SF, so we have no friggin choice but to put up with thier crap.

I avoid this store as often as possible, but sometimes I need things now and so i choose to put up with these folks. The best thing that ever happend to SF was store.apple.com (and the apple store 40 miles south in Palo Alto).

This is like a man suing his mother for giving him birth. If he's try he could make something of his life. There is nothing Mother Apple can do for this looser.

...ultimately the planet would be much better off without Macadam!!!

I personally really like the offical Apple Stores and like the fact that Apple is trying to go retail.

Over the past Three years games have become a major factor in computer sales from what ive seen due to the gaming market rapidly growing eg: ps2 vs xbox. And the classic Nintendo.

i think you would be quite surprised in the little average customer knowledge its funny some people think windows is word and vice versa.

The reason why this so called scare tactic is used is because of the incompatability issue's in the past and cross platforming. Now i surly see people looking at the mac as a digital hub which is what apple wants, general customer satisfaction is much better but its just the computer stores and some resellers that have the bad attitude here, because of profits.
