Application Support folder items

I want to move some items from the "Application Support" folder to a new location because of the amount of disk space they are using. Can anyone recommend whether I should use a symbolic link or a plain old alias?

Is there a rule when moving folders the system uses to avoid breaking apps?

I'd say, basically, whatever works. Try it with an alias, and see if it still works; if not, try it with a symbolic link. If it doesn't, then look for something else to move.

Some applications don't mind linking to the required files in a separate location than where they installed, and some break if you move them (like the OS). There's no real way to know unless you try it, or someone who has tried it tells you.

I would leave that folder as is. Move something else, get another disk, etc.
