Applications not running

I have a mac running OSX 10.39. When i go to install an application it doesn't do anything but say gathering information and it will stay like this forever. I have tried numerous applications and they are all the same.

Hi and welcome to this forum; could you be a little more specific as to how you install which program.. is it with a cd, dvd or a dload with a .dmg file ?
